About Robert Houser
Being sent around the world to over 40 destinations – what a way to start a career - shooting adventure travel. Over time my sports, travel and lifestyle editorial work began taking on a more conceptual angle. Located in San Francisco, I began to shift my focus to portraiture before the dot-com boom. With clients such as Red Herring, the Industry Standard, Business Week and Der Spiegel, I had a front row seat to the wild ride of the internet boom.
In early 1999, with eight other san francisco photographers, co-founded Editorial Photographers (EP), an industry trade group working on business and contract issues in the realm of magazine photography. A few years later, I co-founded bigshotstock – a web site catering to editorial clients searching for stock photographs of the celebrities of the business world - connecting photo-buyers directly to independent photographers.
My work now focuses on portraiture for corporate, advertising and editorial clients. Recent projects took me to Ford's corporate headquarters in Detroit, a water treatment plant in Boston, and the backyard of a young girl with Morquio Syndrome in the suburbs of Washington DC. While these projects take me all over, I still call the San Francisco bay area home where I live with my wife, two kids, a big dog and now two baby chickens.
